Melissa Starr

Welcome to Mount Abraham's Special Education Department web page.
As Special Education Teacher Leader, I am responsible for: serving as the LEA at IEP and evaluation meetings; conducting evaluations grades 7-12; assisting with implementation of MTSS (multi-tiered system of supports for all students); and overseeing departmental programming and services.

I have been a high school special educator for over 15 years, and have experience case managing high school students .  In that role, my primary focus was working with families and other team members to develop Individualized Education Plans to meet each student's unique needs.
In addition to case management, I provided direct instruction in reading and writing  at the tertiary level for students in grades 9 - 12. That work focused on skills/strategies in the areas of fluency, spelling, comprehension, and vocabulary development.
When I'm not helping students at school, I am spending time with my husband, young son, and our our two  dogs.  We enjoy walks in the woods and along the lake, spending time with friends and family, listening to music and eating good food.
If you have questions, concerns, comments or celebrations, I can be reached by phone at 453-2333 ext. 62083, or via email at
