Samantha Kayhart

Biography:

I am Samantha Kayhart and I am a science teacher at Mount Abraham Union High School.  I currently teach Advanced Placement Biology and of course, Biology of Food,  (Food in general is one of my most favorite subjects!) although I have a wide range of experience teaching many science and math courses.  Biology--in any form--is my all time favorite though and I often get picked on at home (with affection, of course!) by my family for always having my nose in a biology-based book or magazine. I graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA (Go Hokies!) with a B.S. in Animal Science, a minor in Biology and a concentration in Fisheries and Wildlife.  I then went on to UVM to get a 5th year certificate in education.  During my teenage and pre-children years I worked as a Veterinary Technician for several different animal hospitals in Maryland and Vermont.

I am part of a family of 5: my husband, Steve, and my 3 kids, Alexa (20), Andrew (17) and Olivia (15).  My family owns a 750 cow dairy farm in West Addison, and all family members except me play a role in it.  My husband is co-owner with his brother and together they manage every aspect of the farm.  My oldest daughter, Alexa feeds baby calves and does health work with her dad.  My son, Andy drives machinery on the farm and Olivia helps with feeding baby calves. I cheer them on from the sidelines!

I have a wide range of interests and actually, my biggest problem is finding time to do all the things I love.  I guess my biggest love is my horses.  I have 3—Simmer (a Quarter Horse), Quinn (a Quarter/Trakehner cross) and Montana (a Morgan/Arab cross).  Simmer is the one I ride the most.  I also enjoy reading, running, hiking, kayaking, skiing, sewing, gardening--food & flowers, decorating/painting in my home, traveling, playing games and best of all, doing any or all of these things with family members.  I also enjoy getting together with friends, going out to dinner, shopping, and going to the movies.  And food.  I really enjoy food (not the cooking part so much). Especially sweets.  Most especially chocolate.  I also really enjoy learning new things.  If only there were more hours in the day!
