At Mt. Abraham I primarily teach physical education. I also serve as Teacher Leader for the PE/Health Department and I'm the head coach for the Varsity Girls Soccer Team.
As a physical education teacher, I most enjoy helping students embrace a growth mindset and gain knowledge and skills for a lifetime of fitness and meeting challenges. It's all about "Moving, Thinking, and Growing!". I also enjoy pursuing new learning, collaborating with others, trying different approaches, and incorporating technology into my practice. I feel honored and privileged to be able to teach and coach professionally in my home community.
Outside of school, I live in Bristol with my wife, Jennifer, and three children, Evan, Ila, and Audrey. I enjoy spending time with family, sports, and home improvement projects. I'm a native of Monkton and a proud 1998 Mt. Abraham graduate. I did my pre-service teaching with Judy Rice at Mt. Abe in the spring of 2002 and I've taught full time at Mt. Abe since the fall of 2004.
Prior to teaching at Mt. Abe, I taught Pre-K - 8th grade physical education at St. Thomas Aquinas School in S. Buffalo, NY and I was the assistant men's soccer coach at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY 2002-2004. I received my teacher training, as well as my BS and MS degrees in Physical Education at Canisius College, in Buffalo, NY, where I also played 4 years of NCAA D1 collegiate soccer and captained my team as a senior prior to being named assistant coach there. Canisius also awarded me the Fr. Edward F. Maloney S.J. Physical Education Award in 2002, given to the most promising physical education graduate. I'm also a proud member several honor societies, including Kappa Delta Pi (Education Field), Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Colleges), and Chi Alpha Sigma (Collegiate Athletes). I also played soccer semi-professionally for the VT Voltage in the United Soccer League PDL. I love soccer and enjoy sharing my passion for soccer and other sports with students.
As a coach, I hold an NSCAA Advanced National soccer coaching diploma, and NFHS certifications in many sports. I've been honored as Lake Division Girls Soccer Coach of the Year multiple times and I've coached the Vermont Twin State Girls Soccer Team twice (once as an assistant in 2013 and once as the head coach in 2014). I also coached Mt. Abraham to our first ever State Championship in Girls Soccer in 2014 and to League Championships in 2014 and 2015 and we won an NSCAA team Academic Award in 2014 when we achieved an impressive cumulative team GPA of 3.77! I also serve the soccer coaching community as Secretary of the Vermont Soccer Coaches Association. In addition to coaching soccer, I have also coached Middle School Girls Basketball at Mt. Abe and I volunteer with Bristol Youth Sports helping coach Grades 3-4 Boys Basketball and with Bristol Little League helping coach Baseball. What I enjoy most about coaching is the growth I see in student-athletes, the sense of belonging and relationships built within a team, and the pleasure and humility of knowing that in the role I play, as coach, together with students I get to partake in their successes and have the opportunity (and awesome responsibility) to have positive significance in young people's lives.
