Chris Braves


Biography: Mr. Braves grew up in Rutland. He went to college after high school graduation and completed his Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Maine at Orono. He graduated with a double major in Health, Physical Education, Dance and Mathematics. He taught for several years in Rutland and Milton and taught Physical Education. He coached football, basketball, baseball, and field hockey at the varsity level, winning league and state championships. He received his Master of Education Degree in Administration from the University of Vermont. In 1983, Mr. Braves was hired as Athletic Director at Mt. Abraham Union High School. He developed an Athletic Improvement Council which took on a major expansion of the outdoor athletic facilities, expanding playing fields. The Council also added a weight room, storage rooms, and office space for athletics. He received his Certificate of Advanced Studies Degree from the University of Vermont in Curriculum. He has been teaching Physical Education full time at Mt. Abraham for twenty-three years. He and his wife live in Richmond and have two sons, Nickolas and Anthony. One of their sons works as a Nuclear Medicine Technician and the other son is a Software Engineer. Mr. Braves' hobbies are running, hiking, fishing, carpentry, reading and travel.
