Russell Comstock

In 2008 I was hired to the four person planning team for personalizing education at Mt. Abe.  In January of 2009 we launched the new program, Pathways, with 14 students who were eager to help us pilot this new approach.  Since 2009 I have continued my involvement as an advisor in the Personalized Learning Dept.
As a P.L. advisor, I am passionate about learning experiences that empower the learner to discover who they are as a unique individual. I am committed to helping students of all ages identify and refine their particular strengths and gifts so that they can contribute to making this world better for all living beings.  I believe that life long learners only need two kinds of feedback: to know what they have done well, and to be guided in the areas where they still need to improve to be their best.  With this educational orientation as my foundation, I feel privileged to work as a part of the Mt. Abe community.
In 1989 I earned a B.A. in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine.  In 2006 I earned my M.A. in Contemplative and Ecological Leadership from Prescott College.  Along the way, I also gained certification as a yoga instructor, a massage therapist, an outdoor adventure guide, a primitive earth skills instructor, and a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT).
My life long interests include organic farming, animal husbandry, permaculture, yoga, eastern spirituality, and traditional hand crafts.  I have lived most of my life in intentional, land-based, spiritual communities and have raised three children who are now in their thirties.
